Default '13 R/T RHB camera hack

My brother bought cool foldup utility trailer which I can borrow. Would like to be able to turn on the rear camera to keep an eye on things. Seems a quick hack would be to find the wire that turns the camera on when in reverse and splice in a switch to a power source that is on when the D is running. Anyone ever try or have a better idea? The JVC system I had installed in my RAV4 allowed the camera to be on if you wanted it. Thanks.

Not sure about splicing, but you can get a Locpic which gives you some pretty good options:

Tempting. $299.00 is what he paid for the trailer...

Black02CrCb - there's a Car Tunes store nearby. I might swing by there to see what they say. If I do I'll be sure to report back.

Yeah, the price is not bad, but I just could never justify it. I don't do many long trips with the fam to places nor do I pull a trailer that much to need more than just the what comes standard lol.

Stopped by a local shop to ask if they could hack it. Got blown off. Big song and dance that they could set me up out the door for $800 to $900. Gonna look in Frys this week for an alternate.

Have you considered just getting a wired or wireless backup camera? You could get a wireless unit for under $100 that won't require much wiring at all. The display at that price point (for a wireless unit) won't be as large you would get using the OEM display, but will be good enough to help you keep an eye on things.

Thanks, Rod. That's why I will head to Fry's. A cheap alt that will be used infrequently. 20 years ago I would have had the dash apart figuring out a way. Now...shortcuts. I'll let y'all know what I find....

Leaning towards a wifi 12v camera that streams to my iPhone. There are 2 on Amazon that seem to be just above junk status. To be continued.....
