Default Loose gas cap

2013 Hemi Crew

Loose gas cap message appeared yesterday. Tightened gas gap, still seems a bit loose. 5-10 restarts later and still there. Should I just replace the gas cap? Something else?

They are $12 at Oreilly's so I'll try that.

A lot of times only OEM gas cap will work.

If you have not done so, I would drive the car for a week or so to give the system plenty of time to reset. Another option and it's free, is to disconnect the neg' side of the battery for a couple of minutes. Be sure not to let the neg' terminal touch any metal. This procedure has it's issues such as loosing your personal settings; for example your programed radio stations. After you reconnect battery terminal, start and see if the light is off and stays off. Good Luck

Wife called me and said, "the car has a wierd light on the dash that looks like a lugnut is loose." LOL.

She sent me a pic and I told her to check the gas cap.

I put a little oil on the gas cap rubber o-ring. The light went away for 2 days then came back.

New gas cap $12 has fixed it so far.
