Default 2016 Stuff on a 2017?

My wife just got her 2017 AWD Citadel and loves it. Interestingly, the Citadel beat out both a 2017 Grand Cherokee (she had a 2008 GC Hemi) and a 2017 Mercedes GLE350.

She wants to put a couple of trim items on it, a hood protector and window vent shades, the in-channel version. No one has those items listed for a 2017 Durango, just the 2016s. And no vendor will offer opinions as to them fitting the 2017, which we perfectly understand what with guarantees and all.

We think they will fit since it appears that the 2016 and 2017 bodies are the same except for minor trim. But I wonder if you experienced owners and Durango experts can confirm the fit.

I have a call into our service guy, whom we've known for many years, to get some info and maybe we'll just play the odds a take a shot.

Anyone have any information?

Thanks.

I believe the 2017 Durango is still part of the 3rd generation of this model introduced in 2011. The car was designed when Chrysler was under Daimler-Mercedes Benz (MB) control, so many of the major suspension components, such as the load leveler shocks, are from Germany. You could say the Durango is the cousin of the MB GL family at half the price; the interior layout design is practically the same, albeit the MB GL has seats that fold by electric motors while the D you have to do manually. You could check with McNeil Automotive (makers of WeatherTech products); they make quite a few products including the in-channel window vents.

Thanks DDCREW. Our salesperson was saying that the Durango is basically a GL underneath, but for sure the GLE doesn't measure up to the Durango in many respects.

We did check with WeatherTech support (our preferred in-channel window vents are WeatherTech) and they are standing firm on not giving any advice regarding the 2017 fit, not yet anyway. And as I mentioned before, we understand that position.

The accessories guy at the dealer's is on the case since he needs the same information.

The engine and transmission are completely different but the two cars definitely share DNA...

I just got a 17 Citadel and traded in my 13 Citadel. I can tell you my Weathertech floor mats fit the same. There were no body changes to it so you should be good on the 16 accessories. I would love to see a picture of the hood protector when you get it, I want one but really want to see it in action.

Thanks. That's the assumption we're going with, and so far it's proven to be right. My wife talked with someone at Owens about the fit of their running boards and he checked something on his end to report that -- as you note -- 2016s and 2017s are basically the same.

Over the past 2 days we've gotten in the Aeroskin hood protector, WeatherTech side window deflectors, and Mopar sill guards. The custom painted running boards and the Canvas Back cargo protector are on order (all 2016s!).

I gave it a test fit yesterday just in case it had to go back (fits perfectly). I'll get it installed as soon as my wife will leave the DD home for a few hours and post some pics asap.

Thanks again for the input.

My 2012 DD R/T has the 3M plastic film on the front end, hood, side panels (any physical part sticking out past the wheel wells), door handles mirrors etc. etc.. The 3M film is holding up well so far and has protected well against rock chips. It's not cheap, but it will last for many years.
