Default Oil Change

Curious if the car tells me when the oil change is needed? My Tahoe did this before I bought the Durango. I'm just over 3k on my miles.

It will alert you when "oil life" has dropped below a certain threshold. It's my understanding the computer makes that calculation based on a number of factors - time since last reset, number of hours ran, average engine load, etc (someone can correct me on that).

I would still be more inclined to follow a static mileage and time interval, though.

My DD was bought new, is 4-years old and has just under 24K miles. I put about 6K miles a year but still change the oil every 6-months - April and October. My concern with going a whole year without an oil change is moisture build up in the oil over time in my upper mid-west area. I also installed a catch can that collects excess burnt oil from the PCV before re-entering the intake manifold. The dealer installs a sticker for 5K miles intervals for oil changes. Based on my driving habits, $30.00 on an oil change every 6-months is "a good ounce of prevention" for a long engine service life.

On my 2012 crew, it would tell you when it was time for an oil change. On my 2015 RT model, you can see what percent life is left in the oil using the info center on the dash cluster (the LCD screen that serves as the speedo, NOT the center Stereo/Uconnect screen).

Mine likes to go around 8000 miles in my typical driving which mostly consists of 20 minute highwy commutes. I use synthetic and follow the system's suggested intervals.

I am with wi-steve on oil change intervals and my 2012 Crew 5.7 alerted me at 6800 miles. I just use Pennzoil 5W-30 conventional engine oil and Fram Tough Guard oil filters.

Nope. I also use the Pennzoil 5W-30 conventional oil in my wife's 2015 Ford Taurus SHO which makes it nice to only have to buy just one brand and weight.
