Default 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel Liftgate won't open

Hi there,
Our 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel Liftgate would not stay open once opened (I believe the smaller strut must need to be replaced to stay open) and now it will not open at all. It beeps like it will open but does not go up, then beeps back closed. Is it the larger strut, or could it be the 30A fuse, or is the TSB update I have read about? It is not under warranty and we are hoping to avoid a huge dealer bill.
Thank you

Hi 2011durangocitadel,

I'd be happy to check your VIN to see if anything comes up that may be relevant in terms of TSBs for you. Just send a PM if I can help.

does it open by hand ?
Your hydraulic/gas strut is probably gone and the powered one can't push the lifgate.
I have a 2011 too and going to have to replace the strut for the second time.

^^^ Agreed. You symptoms are consistent with worn gas struts for the liftgate.

Thanks for your help. Yes we have had to replace it before too but last time it opened at least and didn't stay up. It doesn't open at all now. We have ordered both struts and will replace them and go from there.
