Default Broken bolts

And... another problem that Dodge won't warranty.

So my wife had her 2012 in for an oil change at our local trusted oil change place, and she was informed that a bolt was missing from the AC compressor mount and another was falling out. When they went to try and tighten the bolt that was falling out, they realized it was BROKEN.

There's only 4 bolts mounting the AC compressor to the block, and 1/2 are not working. So I call my local Dodge dealer, and guess what, it's not under warranty.

I'm hoping this is a highly unusual situation. Has anyone else seen broken bolts on an AC compressor mount?

So Dodge's installs bolts incorrectly or uses non-Grade 8 bolts, and when they break off Dodge isn't responsible. Imagine for a moment the amount of damage that could be done if they other two bolts break and a compressor gets thrown around under the hood. I could only hope the belt breaks first.

Oh, and it's starting to be difficult to start.

My wife loves her Durango, but between the $1000 we just dropped several months back on the alternator which almost caught fire and several other little issues in the past 70,000 miles, I'm done with FCA.

Default I don't blame you.

I have to say the issues/problems you are having with your 12 DD have me concerned. I have miles to go to catch up to your mileage with my 12 DD. I have had no issues to date. But, I am starting to think it's just a matter of time now. I have yet to do the new visor recall, because I don't like taking my DD to any Dodge dealership for any work. I don't use the visor, so I think I have some time on the recall work. But, I will have to do an inspection on all the attachments to the engine to make sure everything is still good to go.

Again, I have learned something new to be made aware of.

Thanks and sorry for your troubles.

If bolts are falling off that may result in accidents - an AC compressor falling off in an engine compartment may cause loss of control on a highway and results in possible fatal accident - this issue merits reporting to the NHTSA. If there are others reporting this issue, the NHTSA may force FCA to recall the affected vehicles to correct the problem.

Also check if FCA issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for this problem.
