USED DD Citadel( Feedback)
Hello, all, etc.
Looking to get a more family friendly SUV, coming form a 2007 Tundra (very little problems). I’ve been looking at the used DD citadels, 2011-2013 models. Just looking for some feedback on the gas mileage and durability. Most of my driving his highway during the week, and city and the weekends. So, the question is what am I getting myself into going with the DD, do I need to be a handy mechanic?
Looking for something that is not going to have me on the side of the road with the kids, the Arizona summer heat. Thanks for the feedback.

I highly recommend getting a 2014 or later to get the better performing transmission. Better MPG, better power, better everything.

I've had my '13 R/t since Dec 12. Built Sept 12. I bought as a demo with 4k miles on it. Just about to turn 50k. Hemi mileage is fair. 16 most of the time. Up to 18 pure highway. Water pump went around 30k. Otherwise trouble free. A/C gets the job done here in Houston. 3rd row is usable by adults. Power is great (you don't mention if you're looking at V6 or Hemi versions). Space with 3rd row down is awesome. Golf clubs go straight in. The DD is as long as a Tahoe, but 3 inches narrower and not as tall. Fits in the garage nicely. Very happy as you can tell.
I got my '12 Crew (V6) in March of '13 (21k miles) down in Chattanooga and drove it back of Baltimore area over 2 days at 75-80mph and still logged 20-plus mpg. I have 60K on it now and other than the expected TIPM issue, there have been no problems.
I love the utility and the unexpected power form a V-6. I tote my 100-plus pound German Shepard easily, and the 3rd row seats when in use get compliments from passengers. The radio etc. is a breeze to use and the comfort is exceptional from truck.
I hope to get a '15 or better DD Gt in the coming months after I sell this one. (I want the better tranny, leather, heated seats, paddle shifters etc. on the upgraded '15 and above.)

I have one of the first DDs off the trucks when they brought them back as 'new' from March of 2011. I now have 100k miles on it.
I had the hood rattle fixed, the TIPM repair I performed and lost the water pump last year.
The only other issue that some DDs have is the poor sunroof drain location/design. It truly is only an issue if you are parked facing downhill during a heavy or prolonged rain. When you pull off the incline water can come in through the sunglass holder before the drains can catch up.
Beyond that, simply oil, filters, plugs, wipers, brakes, and coolant change. All routine maintenance.
My wife won't let us get rid of it because it is Blackberry Pearl and that color is no longer available.
