Default General reliability of more recent GEN 3's

Looking to get a DD SXT. Wish I had the $$$$'s for a GT, would love to get the F8 Green color . How has the general reliability of the Pentastar V6 and the 8 speed transmission been ?
Has the AWD version been reliable ? Is there a lot of extra maintenance with the AWD version and what is the cost ?

Last question is do most of the buyers get an extended warranty or hope FCA's quality holds up over the long term .
Trying to make a deciision between this and the Hyundai Palisade . Yes I know it's the first year for that model but the reviews
have been very positive for that and it's sister the Kia telluride . Thanks for any information and opinions.

pentastar is a great engine. do your oil changes and it will last a long time...follow the severe service maintenance schedule. for a v6 it has good power and gets pretty good mpg.

the trans used is pretty much the same as in the pickups... and they have been holding up will. zf are goods trans.

the vehicle has 2 transfer case options...a single speed or a 2 range hi/low. the only extra maintenance will be the cost of fluid changes to the tcase and front diff. as with all awd...you gotta keep the tire treadwear the same....different rotation speeds from mismatched tires kill the tcase.

Thanks for the reply . I ordered a 2020 SXT today and decided to go with RWD to keep it simple . I have had a RWD only Trailblazer for the last 10 years and even here in NY state it hasnt been a problem . With todays ESC and traction control winter driving is adequate with RWD . Also got the factory tow package to go with it . And you get a little better highway MPG's too being RWD only . Looking forward to being a Durango owner . Do these need mudflaps on them or are the wheels tucked into the body enough ? Forgot to look when I was out at the dealer .

I prefer mudflaps...its the law where I am for pick ups... or you get ticketed.

I'm on my second durango (first a 2012 V6, now a 2015 RT V8) and it's been as good or better than our Honda Odyssey and previous Nissan Maxima as far as reliability. The Durango's leather interior however is not holding up as well as the foreign makes I've owned, but still acceptable. Driver's seat bolster by door wore out on both, and I'm not a big guy.

Wife likes it enough that she bought a Ram.

I wouldn't go without the AWD myself. It's great in WI winters. If you get much snow I would suggest to at least get snow tires - which are probably actually more important than the AWD since they help you go AND stop better. I am upgrading to Blizzaks this winter so that I can go with dedicated summer tires for better performance.

Default 3.6 Reliability

I have 2011 Express with 209,000 miles, it doesn't use any oil, tranny shifts good and still gets 20 -24 mpg. I have had front axel seal go bad and had to replace it last year as well as some valve cover and oil filter assembly gaskets. II doest leak any fluids and is always up to the task to tow something, i have no desire to replace it.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like they are as reliable as most other brands and I have not seen any other glaring problems with them . hopefully it will last at least 10 years like my last vehicle (Trailblazer) which is still going strong . I loved the straight 6 in that vehicle . Best engine I have driven in my cars .
