Question 2019 Durango RT Towing Capacity

I just purchased at 2019 Durango RT. The towing capacity is rated at 7200 - 7400 pounds. My car did not have a trailer hitch and I have quoted the mopar hidden hitch for my specific car and towing capacity shows 3500 pounds. Does anyone have anyone have any feedback or recommendations.

The "7200-7400" rating probably has some footnote such as "When properly equipped." The vehicle is likely only rated for that if it has the towing package which may consist of some of all of the following: load leveling suspension, larger brakes, a transmission oil cooler, engine oil cooler, weight distribution system, trailer brake controller, etc. The hitch itself does not know what additional towing features are included on your vehicle so it's probably rated quite conservatively.

Are you having this hitch dealer installed? If so, they should be able to tell you what your vehicle will be rated for with the particular hitch receiver you had quoted. Do they offer any other hitch receiver options?

Default 2019 Dodge Durango RT Towing Cacity

Thanks for your response. Yes it would be dealer installed. I had a 2015 Dodge Durango Limited V6 that I put the Mopar Hidden Hitch on after the fact and I am not sure what rating was but i towed close to 4,000 pounds with it with no problem. You are probably correct that they the rating is low. Thanks again for your feedback

Default 2019 Dodge Durango RT Towing Capacity

If I am towing a 4500-5000 pound boat with brakes on the trailer, i feel like i should be fine. since the hitch is bolted to the frame of the vehicle i cannot imagine the bolts would break. I could see if i was towing closer to the limits of 7000 pounds. Is my thought process correct?

Its funny , it just quotes the weight as 7200 lbs and it doesn't qualify the tow package for the V8 unlike the V6 which is 3500 lbs without the tow package. The RT AWD is 7200 pounds and the RWD is 7400 lbs .

This is the total tow package .
Trailer–Tow Group IV
Class IV Receiver–Hitch
Trailer Brake Control
Heavy–Duty Engine Cooling
Full Size Spare Tire
Load Leveling (Nivomat) shocks
