I have a new 2020 Durango SXT with normal Halogen headlights . whenever you hit the high beams you can hear like a clunk . anyone else ever notice this ? I see reports of other people asking about this but have never heard this with any other vehicle I have owned.

Hi vipergg, we certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you have not done so already, we recommend addressing this with your local Dodge dealer. We are just a DM away if you are in need of any additional support for that process.

Well have read up on this and others make it sound like in single bulb setups like recent year Durangos there is actually a shutter that restricts the light on low beam then opens up on high beam and its that shutter opening and closing that causes the noise . Sounds unnecessarily complex for low/high beam actuation . Would rather have 2 bulbs if thats the case . Another thing to go wrong down the road .
Shutters are used in HID's. I haven't heard of a shuttered halogen light; I don't even see how that's possible.
Try having someone else actuate the high beam while you have the hood open and listen for where the sound is coming from. If it's sort of a clicking sound coming from the fuse box, then it's just the high beam relay turning off and on. It's perfectly normal to hear this on any vehicle.
That clunk I get when trying to flash high beam lights. Unfortunately, passenger side headlight is now stuck in high beam. And not sure how to locate the shutter to see if it's stuck.
You'll need to remove the headlight assembly (not just the bulb) to check on the mechanical functionality of the the high beam shutter. You may want to be armed with a multimeter as well to see if the actuator is the issue or if power is not getting to the actuator. Although I suspect the default position is low beam, so if it's stuck on high it's probably mechanical. Are you able to confirm whether or not the shutter moves to a resting position when the vehicle is shut off and in sleep mode or if it remains in the high beam position? You could also monitor the driver's side to see what the expected functionality is.
Thank you for your response.
The headlight is stuck in high beam when the car starts.
A couple of weeks ago I could manage to bring it down once to low beam after a few attempts but when I hit again, it's been stuck in high beam there since then.
I've been able to access the HID bulb but not sure where is the mechanical shutter to try to move it manually.
I've tried to look for photos online to get an idea where to look or I should say touch, since it's a very tricky area to access.
I've found a pair of headlight assembly on eBay, thinking about replacing it, but wanted to see if there's anything I can "fix" manually before spending money on pieces.
Thank you again for your fast response.
UPDATE: Funny enough, yesterday, after I posted this, I decided to see if I could touch the shutter. I couldn't find it, but I removed the HID bulb and put it back. Now it's working fine! My uneducated guess: this white and round clamp/safety cap around the bulb, has some connectors that need to be aligned perfectly to make it work. Because other than that, I haven't done anything else. This screenshot of the HID is from this video.
