Default Electric Trailer Brakes and a 2015 Durango

Hello. I have a 2015 DD w/towing package and am looking at towing a trailer with electric brakes. I have purchased a Curt Echo Wireless Brake Control. I'm having trouble setting up the brake controller and I don't know if it is defective or if there is an issue with my Durango. According to the brake controller manual I should get a blue light indicting I can connect the bluetooth when the vehicle is on and I plug in the unit. I never get the blue light or any light for that matter. The manual says that some vehicles may need to have the the trailer plugged in to the vehicle to activate the pin that controls the electric brakes. When I plug in the trailer I get a blinking Green light which is like step 2 of initial setup. My question is should my Durango have power on the electric brake pin when it is not connected to anything? Or does it only activate when a trailer is connected?

All my lights work fine but I'm not sure about the electric brakes. I have checked the electric brake fuse and it test good.

I had this one and it plugged right in and worked perfectly on my 2015. If you are asking if the unit received power even without a trailer plugged in; yes, mine did. If you do end up returning yours I highly recommend the Tekonsha unit.

What kind of brake controller do you have? this is just a wireless interface to your phone.

With a brake controller installed you should have power there when the brake pedal is pressed...test for power with a test light, voltmeter or led trailer plug tester.

you can have a towing package without a brake controller. If you need a controller the factory unit integrates nicely into the dash and will incorporate sway correction using the abs system; something aftermarket units can't do. if you choose to go aftermarket tekonsha is the brand to buy.

Thanks for your responses. I have found that the dealer hasn't connected the wiring harness to do what I need it to do. It isn't completely their fault as there are apparently 2 different Mopar parts and 2 different instructions on how to install the factory tow package after it leaves the factory. One only activates the lights and the other activates everything. The problem I have now is getting them to do it the way it will work as though it come from the factory. Mopar does not list the one that activates the brakes as being compatible with the 2015 but I have found that not to be true. I'm having Lin-X look at it today and I will update once I find out the results.

Somebody asked what controller I'm trying to use and it is the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller, https://www.curtmfg.com/dm/echo-mobile-brake-controller . It plugs into the 7 pin connector and your trailer plugs in to it. There is no need for wiring and it controls your trailer brakes through your phone.

Here are links to the 2 different instructions. From research they both will work with the 2015 but the dealer will not even consider the first one:
https://moparonlineparts.com/docs/82216008AB.pdf
http://kopec.us/misc/K6861874.pdf (this just activates the lights)

the instructions are not for a vehicle with a factory tow package. factory equipped have that installed off the assembly line. what you have is dealer installed kit . the dealer is adding the option to the build. that is what the programming is for.

That's correct. Guess I should have been more specific. I had the dealer add the tow package. Even so they should know how to install it and make all the features work, like the aux pin and the elect brake pin. It's a mute point now. Line-X just connected the Red/Violet wire to power. After that I was able to setup my Curt Brake Controller and connected my travel trailer. Everything is working perfectly now, including the trailer brakes.
