Default Misfire at idle

2014 durango limited 3.6l v6 awd

I recently changed the spark plugs " ngk iridium gapped to .45" at 100,000 miles because I had a pretty bad misfire at idle. Once I changed the spark plugs engine ran smooth at idle. At 101,000 miles I started to get a misfire again at idle but it wasn't as bad as the first time so I popped the hood and looked around while the engine was running and I saw that ignition coil #2 was grounding out on the spark plug tube. I let the engine cool down and took off the intake mani to get a closer look and once I pulled the coil off I noticed the coil boot was torn at the top where the coil meets the boot so I replaced the boot and put everything back together and the misfire was gone. Now I'm at 102,600 miles and I get a random single misfire that happens every once in a while at idle. So I decided to do w.e maintenance was required at 100,000+ which was the pcv valve and to check suspension. I also had to change the purge valve + hose because I was getting a check engine light for small leak. The engine runs smoother then ever "the engine is running so smooth it feels like it's not even on" but I still get that random single misfire at idle. I cleaned the throttle bottle and I put a fuel system cleaner to see if its a dirty injector but no luck. I have a scan tool that reads codes and I plugged it in and the ecu doesn't have any pending codes at all.

Has anyone ever experienced this before??.

I'm trying to figure out the issue as soon as possible because I have a 2hr road trip in 2 weeks and i don't wanna waste money on a rental because I could use that money to fix the issue.

What plugs does the manufacturer recommend? I know on some of the older stuff, Dodge says copper plugs, and the rare-earth fellers will give you mystery misfires......

Moving this to 3rd Gen Durango section for ya. Welcome to DF!

I'd suggest replacing the rest of the spark plug boots. These are your spark plug wires, and like the plug wires of old they are wear items. Besides, one was torn and causing a misfire, another may be torn as well.
