Default 2003-2007 5.7 Ram Oil Change Info

Items purchased
- M1 M1-204 filter, if you want another brand look it up. $11
- M1 full synthetic 5W-20 oil,7qts, $5.99 each.

Tools required
-13MM wrench.
- Jack (maybe)
-Oil catch pan

NOTE, 03 and 04 Rams called for 10W-30 except for in extreme cold climates. 5W-20 is for 05 and up.

-If you have a low sitting Ram jack up the truck up from the passenger side.

-The oil plug is on the back side of the pan, right in the middle, not to hard to get to. I went under the truck from behind the passenger tire.Using a 13MM wrench pullthe plug. Let the oil drain then put the plug back in. Make sure your pan can hold7qts of oil.

-Remove the filter. The filter is located on the front of the engine, passenger side. The filter is installed vertically, this means you can put oil in it before you install it to help get oil pressure sooner on the first start. Also put oil on the seal so it will come off easy the next time.

-Fill the truck with7qts of oil if you replace the filter,6.5qts if you do not replace the filter, but I never recommend doing an oil change without a filter change. Keep in mind, if you put oil in the filter in the previous step deduct the amount you put in from the 7qts. You want a TOTAL of7qts.

-Run thetruck for a couple minutes and check for leaks, then lower the truck off the jack if you used one.

Note, 7qts is the amount the manual says is needed with filter, but I have found this only fills the truck into the middle of the safe zone. When I add an additional .5qt it reads full.

Always remember to recycle your oil! Many parts stores accept used oil.
