the bfi and the ramhammer are two totally different intakes. company wise that is. the ramhammer is the original, and the bfi is a copy. ramhammer is currently experiencing some financial problems, and hopefully will be back on his feet making his awesome intakes soon.

im not 100% sure, but i think the differences are that the ramhammer is one solid piece of carbon fiber, and the bfi is a two piece intake, made of i dont know what. and ramhammer uses all American materials and are built in America, by American people.

I dont see anything wrong with the BFI, but Im waiting for a RamHammer still. Scott over at Hammer Automotive is an awesome guy, who makes an awesome product, and hes got my business as long as hes around.

Hey Bwhite757, great little write up, I do have a question, with the pvc pipeing you built, does anything get hot enough to melt it? I like the idea of fabbing up my own cai because they are simply too expensive to purchase an aftermarket one. Do you have any pictures of yours? What size diameter are the pipes? Did you use anything to seal the joints, Im very interested in trying to make my own

Sorry I didn't see this until now.

I used 3" diameter PVC, used regular PVC cement to seal the joints. I had planned on buying an Amsoil filter to put on it, but I ended up leaving my K&N 3 1/2" clamp on. Fits perfect, works and sounds great. I'm actually planning on buying a couple better permanent brackets to put on it today, I'll put an updated picture up once I get it done.

The heat issue has been discussed many times. Honestly only time will tell. Schedule 40 is rated for 140 degree liquid to run through it, air temps can probably be a little higher. So far my CAI has only seen a 90 degree day, and the Intake Air Temp reached around 105 (According to my Edge programmer). As long as my intake air temp doesn't get above 150, I'm not going to worry, right now it's solid, still looks good, and doing it's job...

****EDIT****
After talking about my intake for awhile now, and looking at the horrid pictures of it, I've finally finished it up. No more Zip-Ties, and some nice paint:

How stable is the intake the way you have it mounted? My job, plus my hobbies, puts me on alot of very rough and dusty roads and I'm wondering how this will hold up.

Also, do you have a link to the build it yourself thread?

With those 2 hanger straps, and then mounted onto the TB, It's not moving anywhere.. Now previously with just the Zip ties, it was free to move around a little. I'm more worried about factory items falling off before that intake now. It's solid.
