Cold air intakes
I have been watching my intake air temp on my trinity and decided to switch to airaid-type of setup. stock air box with drop in k&n and a pvc tube to TB. I was seeing as high as 45 deg higher than ambient with my "cold" air intake. Now, with stock box and air from fender, the temp is mostly the same as ambient. It will be interesting to see what kind of difference in MPG i will see...
I doubt you will see any increases, since cooler air is also denser air, and when the computer sees the denser air, it will probably add fuel to make up the difference. It's just like driving in the winter, your mpg drops from the cold dense air. I doubt you will see any decrease this time of year, but doubt any increase at all. CAI's aren't designed for mpg in mind, just performance

What kind of CAI did you have originally, and did it have a sealed box for the air filter
So I have a question and Ive been puzzled by this, especially after the response I got from Volant-
I got a K&N cai on my 5.7 that's old and crappy and I had my Volant on the 4.7 (damaged vehicle) so I thought I could change em over, especially since my Volant has the Donaldson Powercore filter in it, which I believe is far superior to K&N. Why? Because I remember back when I bought the Volant, their page showed that the intake could also fit the 5.7. I am pretty sure. Either way, comparing the duct to the k&n that's on now, it seems like it would fit no problem. Now I know there's a specific 5.7l intake made by Volant. So I decided to call them up and ask the question, since I remember they were absolutely great a year or two ago (slightly before they got HUGELY popular). So I did and the lady Who picked up the phone didnt even say her name or said "this is volant" or anything, just a short "uh hello?"
The technical guy was super short with me and just said "the duct is too small for performance". When I said I had read conflicting information online etc I got "I'm sure".
Just a story about Volant, I am disappointed.
Does anyone know for sure if it fits or not?
On a side note, K&N offered me a new filter sent to me straight away.

Home made K&N on mine and noticed a slight increase in power but def a difference in full economy my 3.7L 6spd got me 27mpg last time it made the trip to O.C Maryland.. Still trying to get better throttle response
I don't have the option of the computer telling me the gas mileage I took the mileage from trip gauge and divided the gallons I put in when I filled the truck back up and that's the number.. I have a base model 2wd 6cyl 6spd at 74 mph its like 1200 rpms in 6th gear. That's why I' hopping when I look to get a 4dr the option of a manual transmission is back...
About a month ago I towed my 70 Maverick drag car up to Portland (676 miles door to door) and back again. I averaged 16mpg (using good ole math, not the computer) and that is towing a 3000lb race car and 1200lb (4350lbs total) trailer......................not bad for a little 5.7 Ram.
I've got a Airaid 300-220 dry system, Magnaflow muffler and single 3" exiting where the factory pipe did.............and I was driving 65/70mph in "tow mode".
I have gotten 23mpg driving 65 on the highway..........again, using math, not the computer.
The Airaid system does have a C.A.R.B. stick.............when you live in California you need this to go through DEQ.

O.K. i'm totallly confused.. Im not interested in building my own CAI i wanna order one that'll drop right in my 2008 RAM Bighorn 5.7L with good results. What brands and models should I be looking at? And also whats better dry filter or oiled?
