amsoil 5w-20, NAPA Gold filter, about six to seven thousand miles with a new filter halfway through before the full change.

Pickup a ph8 fram filter and the one for our dodges big differance in size, I know my dad used to run the Motocraft 1A on his older dodge but not sure if it will fit the newer ones.. Will have to do some investigating on that.

How often should the oil filters be changed? I'm probably going to start doing my own oil changes from now on...and I'll most likely go with mobil 1

Quick question, since I do not know what oil has been run in my truck by the previous owners, what would be a good oil flush kit to use on the 4.7 before I start a new blend??

At this time looks like Pennzoil is in it from the dealer but I am considering going a full synthetic (either royal purple or Mobil1) but with the 4.7 being sludge prone I assume a good flush would be in order before changing..

I was thinkin replys should include the SAE / weight? It's amazing how far we have come with synthetic oils. Now thers a 0W Oil! no more cold start worries, or pre lube pumps. The full synth is really a longer change interval the the Dino. I believe the Mobile 1 website even mentions something like 7500. But ya know these Oil Co's want ya to keep coming back. ASAP

just wonderin if any folks have a magic concoction, the motor runs great, but it does have 90k miles, so extra noise is to be expected
The difference between 5W and 10W is cold temp flow. You're still using a SAE 30. 5W just flows a bit faster at low temps. Now the 0W has hit the market. My Hemi had a tick too. The Z-max I used hushed it alot.

Every time you change your oil.

DO NOT buy a filter that doesn't say the following:

This filter meets or exceeds all OEM regulations for an oil filter.

FRAM does NOT say this. IT WILL void a warranty!!!

While I am no fan of Fram filters and do not use them they will not void your warranty simply because they do not have the info you say it must about meeting OE spec's. By law a car mfg can not void your warranty for using aftermarket parts. As long as the Fram filter you buy is the correct one by application for your vehicle you are fine.

If you have an engine failure and are using a Fram filter that is correct for the vehicle your warranty will cover it. If the filter itself failed and caused the engine failure then you would have to go after Fram. The car mfg would not be required to do a warranty repair for a failed aftermarket part.

There are countless filters available for the same or even less money than Fram that are superior quality, so using a Fram to me makes no sense, but using a Fram filter in and of itsellf does not void you warranty.

I just bought my truck and can see the oil hasn't been changed in a while. I know the previous owner wasn't very kind on oil changes. I'm switching to 5W-30 Mobile 1, and Mobile 1 filter. It doesn't get driven much intentionally, just trips of hauling junk on the weekends, so I figure 5,000 miles or so. I'll make a judgment call based on the oil that comes off the dip stick. I also wanted to flush my 4.7 because of all I heard about sludge, but I've been warned about that. Flushing the engine may lead to the sludge just ending up at the oil pick up tube. I guess I'll just drop the pan and settle for wiping and sludge out of it.
