I've been doing a bit of fuel experimenting. I started using non-ethanol gas in both my truck and my Jeep about a year and a half ago and almost right away started seeing a solid 2-2.5 mpg gain in both vehicles. The problem here is that I have one station about five miles away and one about twenty that I know of who carry it. Get away from home and they are few and far between and even with the database of stations that's available, many times it would take me miles and miles out of the way to get it. Couple that with the fact that the small independent by my house doesn't take credit cards and it's a downright PIA getting it all the time.

So I stopped getting it and within two tanks lost the MPG gains I was seeing. I had been using a product in my yard equipment gas for a couple of months on the advice of a friend who owns a landscape/yard care business that basically takes the ethanol out of fuel. I was having a big problem on seldom used equipment with the ethanol eating away primer bulbs and fuel lines not to mention carb gum up issues. The product worked wonders, so I started using it in my ethanol gas about three months ago. By the third tank of gas I had my 2 mpg gains back in my truck and closer to 3 mpg in the Jeep. A recent trip with the Jeep up to my farm got me 22.1 mpg for the whole 900 miles I put on the Jeep over the three week period I was away, beating my average of 18.5 mpg over the past two trips including 17.8 I got last time up in July.

I've got one of the guys who co-owns my small piece of farm property using it in his '98 Chevy Z71 and according to him, he's seeing close to 4 mpg gains on his fifth tank with the additive.

The product is called Star Tron and is made by Starbrite, a company who has been making fuel additive for marine applications for decades. It's available in multiple concentrations. I purchase a super concentrated 8 oz. bottle that treats 128 gallons of fuel from the marine/fishing department in WalMart. It runs about $8 a bottle so spread over 128 gallons of gas we are only talking about a buck and a half per fillup. Obviously with the gains I'm getting the product MORE than pays for itself in fuel savings, not to mention my vehicles idle and run smoother and the product is a two year fuel stabilizer.

Try you a bottle and see if by the third or fourth fill-up your truck isn't running smoother and you aren't seeing better fuel economy.

Hammer, about the Star Tron...

I went out and searched for it.. Wally World had it in the marine parts section... It's nowhere to be found in the automotive department..

I hawk my mileage closely- I'll give up a report in a little bit.. the first charge of it just went in the tank.

Locally, Lowes sells it, Tractor Supply sells it, two local boat/outboard shops sell it in addition to WalMart. Yeah, every WallyWorld I've seen it in has it in the marine dept.

Try it, if you don't see a pretty drastic improvement by the fourth tankful I'd be shocked. I am always skeptical about ANY additive but this one works! I was having to change primer bulbs and fuel lines at least once a year in my yard engines and in two and a half years of using this stuff in them, I have yet to have to. I don't know why it took me until just recently to start using it in my vehicles...

Default Star Tron

this stuff is great! I'm on my second tank and now I'm getting 12 in town and 16.5 on the highway. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to buy the big jug when my 8 oz runs out.

Thanks to Hammer I too am now a believer in the Star Tron stuff. My truck definitely runs alot smoother and as for an MPG boost I don't really know forsure but it seems like it. I'm only on my 3rd tank using it so I'll give some more time
