I thought that the tailgate thing was debunked by the Mythbusters.

I thought the mythbusters broke that also. Two like trucks 2 mpg better with it up. Ive noticed since I put a work box in the bed my mileage has gone down, think it broke the eddie ?? Maybe it's my imagination, could be the heat in AZ taking a toll.lol.

Mythbusters definitly busted that one. What do you know about the effects of a canopy?

It was said that the tarpaulin is the same a the gate down, but I can't remember the mpg numbers. I think it wasSLIGHTLY better than with the gate down, not worth mentioning though. I'm having a hard time with milage myself, being that my truck is my office and my trailer is my shop. It would be nice if people could bring their house over and drop it off till I finish my part, and then take it back. The cost of gas should be included in the price of the quote, however, all company's in our line of work are within a few dollars of each other, could cost some business. I just ordered the K&N cold air intake for my truck yesterday, maybe it'll give me a better than 10.5 mpgs.

Hello everyone. I have to say im shocked at some of these numbersI have seen floating around here. I have a 05 QC 2500 4x4 Cummings 3:73 gear ratio. My highway mpg not pulling anything I can get 22-24, in the city depending on how I drive I can get 16-18. I run a 5% BioDiesel blend with a touch of Marvel Mystery Oil.

man..this is bad bad news. You guys do know that Chevy V8's get 18-20 on the highway and the 07's with displacment get 22+ on the higway. I was really looking at getting into a Dodge because I think they are the best looking truck out there and I can pick one up for alot cheaper than I can a Ford or Chevy. But my 04 Chevy Z71 gets 18 on the highway each and every day and sometimes 20. Maybe the savings I get from buying a dodge instead of a Chevy will equal the savings I get in gas with the Chevy. Can the 4.7L V-8 pull a 22ft 3000lb boat pretty good?

Yes it will pull it. But you may as well get the HEMI as far as gas milage goes and the 3.92 gears.

We just picked up a new 07 15k qc BH 4x4 last week. During the first few hundred miles we got about 14mpg. We haven't had it on the highway much yet so I don't yet know what that will look like. We're kind of hoping it will get better, but not expecting much. I'm kind of interested to see what happens as the thing gets broke in. The thing I keep thinking is that buying a huge truck like this and worrying about gas mileage is like marrying a rotund woman and being concerned about your grocery bill.

I have a 2005 Ram Quad Cab Hemi and a canopy over the bed with the 20" rims, and on the highway I can get 19.7mpg according to the computer driving 70MPH, and 12.9 pulling a 10ft 3000 pound trailer. In the city (where I tend to dog it a lot), I'm getting 12.7mpg
