Default low mpgs, mods didnt help

so I added a full afe intake, magnaflow exhaust, and super chips tuner. mpgs did not increase at all from stock. now i lifted the truck 3" and threw on 33's that actually measure 31.5" which is the stock size of trucks with 20s, and im getting at best like 15 mpg on the highway. the spark plugs were changed and throttle body cleaned about 500 miles ago. I dont get why my mpgs are so horrible on the highway, when i want to, I actually take it easy and the best I've seen is 16. yea i know "your driving a truck", but on a trip to South Carolina I once got 22 mpg doing 55, and usually 18/19 doing 65

anyone have any idea? Im about to change the oil as its due, but I cant see that helping much

im lowered and i get an average of 13.1. i would love to be getting 15... truth is our trucks arent the most aerodynamic. kinda one of those things you just have to get used to. before i drove my truck i had a BMW 3 series that got around 23 and i would love to get that kinda MPG's again

Yeah, Im good if I get 12 now. LOL

My wifes Mini gets 35 on the road. Bottom line, I know we all wont better MPG out of our trucks but I just dont know what Dodge was thinking when they made these.

OP: What about your air filters? You tire pressure? What speed and RPM on average? Are you running stock 20s or customs that weight more?

Could be worse, you could have the old 5.9 gasser. My 2nd Gen with a lift and 35s got 9, yes I said "N I N E" mpgs in combination driving and I was lucky to get 12.5 on trips IF I kept it under 65! Had 100 less HP at the crank than the Hemi too.

Right now I'm at upper 12s to low 13s in combination driving and can usually just get a hair above 16 on trips...

Sorry you 5.9 3rd Gen guys, not trying to "dig" at you guys, just stating my experience...

I understand hammer, but I get 12 with my truck with 35's on it... with just 3.92's, k&n filter, stock exhaust still, and a superchips tuner...

I'm glad you are doing that well, and don't get me wrong, I LOVED my '98 RCSB 5.9 4x4. For what I got for it in '02 I now wish I'da kept it and stroked it to a 392 or 408, lifted it higher and had it for a weekend "beater". But this sucker never saw more than 12 mpg after the lift and I had no cats (non-fouler trick), headers, true dual with two glass packs, a K&N drop in and the stock 3.92s...

The 2nd gens really are nice beat-em uppers!! Mine with the 33's rolled with a bunch of my buddies with 35! I still even think my 98 with 33's w/o the lsd could probably give my 02 with 35's with the lsd a good run for its money. although I could be wrong. But I pushed my old 2nd gen a whole lot harder!

yeah me too.... Even though I bought it new off the lot same as my 3rd Gen, I beat it from day one.

Now I got so many "cosmetic" mods in addition to performance ones on this truck that I find myself stopping and unloading the ATV off the back WAY before I get as deep into the woods or swamps as I did with my 2nd Gen.

I was barely 30 when I bought it, into my 40s now, I guess I'm just getting old...

I know that feeling my 02 with 35's im seeing about 10. I love the truck. Just not the mpg's! But i think the love for the truck outweighs the mpgs.
