I have a magnaflow cat back system on my truck (16700 kit) and love it. I am getting ready to have my magnaflow y pipe installed today as well as installing the mid pipe from the cat back kit (I left the front resonator in to see how I liked it when I first installed it)

Both the cat back system and the Y pipe came from Amazon. I managed to score the 16700 kit for $400 at the time. Keep an eye out for the magnaflow 30% off deals that Amazon runs and you can save some dough.

I'm in Fairfax Virginia, I've called at least 5 performance shops so far the cheapest quote I've been given is $500 after taxes with a SI/DO Magnaflow muffler. I have a 2006 QC 4x4 Sport pretty much stock but I plan on putting a lot of attention on the upgrades this Spring/Summer.

Thanks RedTruck-VA I can get the muffler for cheap the $500 quotes included the cat back install with a Manaflow muffler. I'm assuming if I buy a Magnaflow Y-pipe and Muffler bring it to a shop the price is going to be close to $500 anyway? The $500 quotes I've received include a complete SS run from the CAT back with Magnaflow SI/DO muffer and chrome tips on each side of the truck. I guess my question is whether the Mangaflow complete kits a better quality than the pipe they're installing since the only Mangnaflow product they're using is the muffler?

It just depends on if they're using stainless steel for the piping and mandrel bending it all. The magnaflow cat backs from what I can tell bolt on pretty much where the old muffler was and do nothing to replace the factory Y-pipe. Prices vary but if you get the muffler and y pipe and have a shop install them w/ some piping you'll be looking at least $300 (muffler and y included). I'm assuming w/ the dual out you're gonna want the pipes coming out the back or sides and maybe some tips in that price.

whats the big deal about having fake duals anyways? why not just buy a SI/SO muffler ($75 or so) and a mag Y ($30) and pay a shop to weld those in. install cost should be around $70-80. it will perform the same as a SI/DO catback.

Another 600 dollars when all is said and done. For exhaust work, Yeah thats' worth it.....not! It all turns too shlt in a matter of time This thing ss at least? I know I have blowmasters. and I know it's gonna rust. But I did save some coin and it does exactly what i wanted in a cat back system. imo . btw.

Default I learned my lesson

So I had the exhaust installed by a local installer in Fairfax, Va. I had scheduled the install for the morning I was providing the Magnaflow Y-Pipe (2.5 to 3") and they were installing the SS pipe and Magnaflow muffler. I dropped my truck off at 10:30 and was told previously it would take 2-3hrs to do the install. I showed up at the shop around 3:30 and they were still bending the pipe. The shop didn't have the muffler or the pipe on hand when I got there even though I outlined everything a week before and called to confirm the day before I dropped it off. I noticed that they were using about 4' of the original 3" pipe from the factory collector and which should have been removed and replaced with the Magnaflow Y-Pipe. I asked them why the Magnaflow Y-pipe wasn't installed and they said the stock pipe was 2.25 and the M.f was 2.5 and they didn't have the parts to install it. It took them another 4hrs to get the exhaust installed and sure'd up.

1) So, they used 4" of the orginal 3" pipe welded to a new 3" pipe into the muffler.
2) They didn't install the Y-Pipe because they said they didn't have the parts to install it.
3) It took them 8.5 hrs to get the muffer, shape the pipe and install it. 5hrs longer than they said it would.

The exhaust sounds good so thats one good thing out of this mess but I'm a little concerned they used the factory pipe which had some clear oxidation on it. I'm not sure why they're saying the Y-pipe wasn't correct for my truck as i ordered it from jeggs and they had my make and model. The installer expects me to bring the truck back when he gets the parts he needs to install the y-pipe, needless to say I won't ever return.

Finally - I've noticed the tach hangs around 1100 when cruising around 30-40mph (foot off pedal) and full stop it idles a little higher 6-700rpm compared to 500 when warm. It's only been a day so I guess the computer is relearning the flow characteristics but it's something I've noticed.. the engine hanging high on the RPMs longer than before.

Just ordered my magnaflow 15788 from performancepeddler, I made an offer of $390 and they said $430, which is saving me around $200. They definitely have the cheapest prices I've seen. Thanks guys for recommending their site. It should get here in Mass in like a week, I'll post how much of a b!tch was to put on with all the rust from the salty New England roads.
