One of my best friend's son who is like my kid brother had a set of Maxxis Buckshot Mudders on his Z71 and they were not overly loud, but not quiet either. About the same noise as my FCIIs.
But I know what you are saying about Maxxis wearing out quick, his were slicks at 24,000 miles! I finally talked him into Mickey Thompson MTZs about four years ago. About 33% more money than the Maxxis' tires but here they are with 54k miles on them:

And OP, you do not want these tires, wear like iron, handle great on and off-road, but they HOWL!!!

BTW, not to try to hijack the thread, but I made those grille guard uprights, used his rusted out ones and mine as a pattern and color match painted them, not bad, eh?

Maybe that's what I'll be looking into when my mudder gets done and ready for tires

Me and my buddies have had really good luck with the Cooper STT's. They balance out really nice, and seem to be wearing good. They're almost identical to the Toyo Open Country M/T's but cheaper. I think I remember hearing that the Toyo's are a harder compound though...

I got Bridgestone Duelers A/T Revo II on my dak now and they are awesome. I have no idea how they perform on mud (my truck has never seen mud) but on wet, snowy or icy pavement the are great. For the exhaust i went with a Borla si/so and sounds great. Not as loud as the flowmaster (that everybody has) but has a deep growl on low rpm and an agressive sound on the highway. Jmo....

First time I ever heard that they rode crappy. Perhaps they don't do as well on light duty trucks but when I haul my 7 ton 5th wheel trailer the whole thing rides like a dream, even on very windy days there is little to no sway. Regardless of brand you should rotate your tires at least every 10,000 miles for a longer lifespan.

I'll slide in another vote for the terra's. I have 295/70/17's, which is a 33" tire. Looks great, rides smooth, does pretty well offroad so far (haven't REALLY tested them yet ), and not too loud at all cruisin at 70ish mph. They can be had at that size for little over $700 on discount tire's ebay store, shipped!

Any off road+combo streat tire is a crap shoot, I like nitto tires, cooper tires can be a good buy for the money. Step up to a LT rated tire, I prefer E or 10 ply how ever c or 6 ply is fine for a 1500, Running any stock P rated oem tire ( good year H/P or wranglers ) is a joke thats not funny.

You have to know how much use is off road, how much is highway and than the tire that fits your Rim!!

Agreed. P rated tires are useless on pickup trucks to begin with unless you drive an older baby F150 or smaller truck or you only drive it pavement all the time. I run E's myself since I use my truck to pull a 39 foot 5th. I don't do much offroad driving except to the local dump.

Damn you pull a 40ft 5th wheel with that short bed? At that size, I would prefer a long bed dually but then I have to climb a mountain to get to the desert where I live.
