Max tire size on a 05' 1500 with Off Road
Just curious on what the biggesttire I can put on without rubbing. I know that some tires run big and some run small. I have a 05 ram 1500 with the off road package, 4x4, and it currently has 275/70/17 wrangler AT on it if I remeber correctly. It looks like I could easily stuff 285's, but will they rub? Can I go bigger than that without rubbing?
I have the same truck and tires. 285s will fit easily without rubbing. All but REAL aggressive 305s will fit without rubbing. Some 315s will fit with minimal to zero rubbing depending on the tread.
I've seen a truck like ours with aggressive 285s on it and they look sweet - however, the guy said he is on his 2nd set as they wear out quickly ( and have a lot of road noise).
I'm at 51K miles and am starting to get antsy on what to do. Being a conservative, 95% on-road driver, I'll probably go with 285/70 Warngler ATs or something similar from Discount Tire.

I just put 315/70/17 BFG All terrains on my 03 ram 4x4 off road package, I turned the torsion bar bolts 7 revolutions each to level the truck. The tires are on my stock rims, And i think the truck finally looks right with those big wheel wells filled. If you haven't already bought something, step up to the 315's
I have 35 x12.50 x 20s on my 05 with 7.5 turns on the torsion bolts. They fit great, no rubbing and fills the fenders wells which is what I like.
What do you think?

That trucks looks great Dennis, has a really nice stance. You really need to tint those front windows for a sleak look. Dark windows on white paint really sets off a vehicle.
Anything abnormal now that you turned your torsion bars up?

Window tint will be done this week! Waiting on by Brother in-law to work it in.
The only thing I had to do after raising the torsion bars is get some longer shocks for the front.
So I went ahead and replaced all 4 with some Ranchos. Other than that I have not noticed anything abnormal.
I got the 35's cause I was planning on putting a 3" body lift on it, but now that the tires are on I really like the way she sits so I doubt I'll do the lift. Plenty of room with the 35's.

am i right to assume that i dont need to turn the torsion bars at all to fit 285/70R17 tires on my stock 2005 Ram 1500 4wd??

I have an '05 dodge ram off road package quad cab. What 305 will fit without causing rubbing or wearing out the steering early. I finally have the truck paid for and only 38,000 miles on it. I need to make it last. The Wrangler AT's that came with it are just about shot.
I have been reviewing various tires and sizes and am somewhat confused.
