Default Ram 1500 for towing

I just bought a 2007 Ram 1500 Regular Cab/short bed 5.7 auto with the tow package.

I intent to use it to tow my drag car to the strip and want to hear from the voice of experiance on what to expect. I really couldn't afford the larger DSL and am hoping the Hemi would be up to the challange of pulling5500lbs of car and trailer.

What do you think?

I pull a 7700# tractor about three or four times a year with no problem whatsoever although it does suck the gas quite a bit...

No problems yet here, and I pull a 6,000# skidsteer on a 1200# trailer on occasion. My only worrie is the revs... I'm still not used to spinning 5200 before a shift (up hill, and trying to not be a nuisance on the road)

ya 5500lb is a joke for the hemi i also have 3.92 gears that help
at about 7000lbs you will start to feel it
if you have the tow package you should also have 3.92 gears and being a RCSB you have less weight than me to begin with

when i tow my car and trailer, 4200lbs (and 500lb in the bed) i use the tow haul button and my RPM's basically stay at 2000 the entire trip. and will jump to 3500-4000 to get up a medium sized hill

I tow a 27ft. camping trailer with my Hemi, I have 3.92 gears and it tows it fine. The trailer weighs about ~6300 lbs. dry and can weigh as much as ~8200 lbs. when fully loaded (water, gear, food, etc) No problems. Pulls it much better than my 2000 F150 did.

I use my truck for the same purpose. I have a 87 Supra that I pull on a 18ft trailer 60 miles every week and I have no problem at all with my truck. You have a regular cab so you should have an even easier time than me.

Thanks guys, when I started looking for a tow vehicle I concentrated on Silverados, because the new fords are bu tt ugly, then I saw a short Hemi and it started stick. The more I looked into it the more I liked the Dodge.

I'm lovin it so far. My drag car is a ford BB and the kid next door saw the Hemi and said " anit that a bitch", your tow vehicle is faster than your race car!

As said before, you will have no issues. I also use mine to pull a loaded 16ft trailer from time to time
