Default poor headlights

Hi all. I have a 2004 Ram 1500. The headlights are so bad, it just isn't funny! I had to make a 4 hour trip through Moose country last ( with rain and fog to add insult to injury ) and had the worst visibility I have ever had on a vehicle. I couldn't see the sides of the highway, and had practically no far reaching visibilty. Is this a common problem with Rams of this type? I put in Xtravision bulbs - can't see any difference, and standing looking at the truck, the lights look good, but in use, they are dreadful. Is my only option to fit driving lights? ( Don't want to spend a fortune on HID ).
Thanks.

What do you mean by 'bad'? Are the lense yellowed?

Check fuses first, I do beleive there are two.... if one blows, the headlights will still work, but, won't be as bright as they should.

Check all grounds as well. Bad ground will have the same effect as above.

And.... you have a third gen. Might wanna post in the third gen board, might be differences I am not aware of between 2nds, and 3rds.

Default 2007, 2009 & 2011 Ram 1500

All 3 trucks suck at headlight vision, its from day one, upgrade your headlights but to which kind is the question, I have finally decided to just run on dim and leave fog lamps on, yes u get lots of truckers tryin to train you by flashing you about your fog lamps, but I finally gave up and don't notice them anymore.

Of yuo can buy your own HID kit for about $40-50 and install it yourself. We have a HID thread stickied at the top of the main section

Don't go HID unless you are doing a projector headlight swap/retrofit.

Pick up a set of Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's. They are your best option for a reflector housing. I have them in my truck and they are unreal. Pure white light that outperforms any halogen bulbs I have ever tried.

Try aiming your headlights as well

I agree, at least in the '04s the stock headlight bulbs sucked a$$. I bought mine new off the light and I swapped out the headlight bulbs for Sylvania Ultras before the thing was 6 months old.
They ain't HID bright, but still were a 100% improvement over the stock bulbs.
Almost seven years later, they are still in there, shining just fine...

We replaced the bulbs in my '06 that were just horrendous to PIAA ultra white lights. PIAAs are incredibly bright and provide excellent definition. Very easy to drive for extended trips in the dark.
