Default 4.7 versus 5.9

So i know everybody says the hemi is the way to go but, for me the price seems right for these two engines. A few questions. Is the 4.7 good enough to haul a mid size 5th wheel. Is the 5.9 that bad on gas, and are either of them high mileage like the 5.7.
I've got a line on a 2004 4.7, 4X4 4 door with 28000km for 7500obo, but its immaculate. Also a 2002 5.9, 4X4 4 door with 270000km for 5500obo but its been used as a truck! What do you guys think.

The 4.7 is no fun, and can barely tow a 4000 Lbs boat. You will like the 5.9 its an awesome engine despite how old it is. And getting power out of them is cheap. Once you get the old 5.9 dialed in they're not that bad on fuel.

I love my 4.7 and would have no doubts towing 4k with it, but i wouldnt do a fifth wheel. Plus a 5th wheel in a half ton isnt the most preferred thing anyway. It puts a lot of weight on the truck.

I was weighting for someone to stick up for the 4.7. What about high km on that motor, is 280 too much, or does it have some life left. I know its not ideal to tow a 5th wheel but sometimes i don't have a choice.

If you are going to pull a 5th wheel, I would be looking for a 2500 not a 1500. Get a 2nd gen with 5.9. These old 360s have good torque for towing and the 2500 chassis will be much better for hauling. You should be able to get a 2nd gen for a good those prices.

If you are dead set on 3rd gen 1500, I would go with the 5.9 over a 4.7 if you are planning on towing.

Thats a good bit. Not bad, but not the greatest. How beat up is the 5.9?

it was used for hauling trailers, a few dings. Needs rear tires and brakes.
