Default Home Brew CAI DIY

I started my home brew. I threw it together to get going. I pulled a camper 600 miles with this set up.

I will improve on this design, remove the Hemi Hat, and improvise RAM AIR.

Here is what I have thus far. Flipped my check engine light after mile 300.

For this simple and easy, I bought a 3" 45 Degree PVC pipe. Removed the old filter and housing cap.

Installed:

Left the box as a heat shield, and the stock flow design breaths right on the filter.

Breather Filter:
Removed the pipe that crosses the engine, and turned the hose upright.

All together now:

And this sticks in the end of the filter and runs to where ever I can reach it...mwha hahahahaha haa

I did this change just before I pulled 7000 lbs 300 miles one way.

It really helped. I did so so on gas on the way down, getting 9.9MPG (used to get 8MPG in my 1998) I got 10.4 on the way back.

Since I've been back and daily driven the truck, I consistenly get .5 MPG more with the CAI.

I have Glass Pack exhaust before this CAI, and saw no change.

I can't wait to get ram air.

if you could do w/o the hemi hat you may see more results. that is where the resonator is. look inside there are tunnles that allows air to blow around and restrict air flow.

Anti=resonator is more like it. had it (the hemi hat) actually resonated it would be as loud as our cai's imo. But your spot on in the restrictiveness of the stock unit.

Totally gonna extract the Hemi Hat. I just did this to make use of the new filter before I took off for my camping trip.

going 4", I have 36" of 4" sch40 left over from a drain tile project, so I'm ready. Just gotta find time.
