Default Diesel fan with a hemi...!!!

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie on this forum. Just bought a Black Ram 2008 1500 Laramie QCLB 3.92 gears 4X4. I'll probably have a lot of reading to do on this Dodge forum...

What can i say...i've been looking for a Ram 2005 2006 with a Cummins engine for a many months but all i found was junk (many trucks could not even start, ABS, check engine lights on, black tranny fluid...) + many truck with rollback odometer (one truck with 110000 miles but 4900 hours on the hour meter in the cluster...)

Since i just pull my boat (2600 lbs) during summer time and i don't plan to do over 5000 miles / year i didn't need the Cummins engine. So i gave up a bought a Hemi 2008 with 41000 KM (26000 miles) 541 hour on the cluster.

Just sold my Grand Caravan 2002 FWD and my Ram D250 1990 RWD Cummins 95000 miles single cab.

Up to now after a 1000 miles with the Hemi i'm very suprise and happy with it. Not as much space for the kids but O.K.

Since i also have a VW wagon TDI for a daily (25000 miles / year), fuel economy was not a big deal for me.

Never had a 4X4 before and can't wait to try it in a snow storm...

Thanks

P.S. Sorry for my english writting...I write and speak french and my english is not perfect yet...

Woo Hoo!! Welcome to the board.

Question though, if you thought one truck with 110,000 miles and 4900 hours on the odometer was turned back but the one with 26,000 miles and 541 hours on it was not, where is the difference?

110,000 and 4900 = first truck

26,000 and 541 = second truck which you can multiply those numbers by 4.2 and get 109,200 miles and 2272 hours. Sounds like the numbers add up (mileage v/s hours) but maybe the first truck was running but idling more like most diesels do.

Just some food for thought. Either way, post some pics of your new rig and welcome again.

At 110,000 that Cummins was just broken in. I'd come close to buying one with 200,000 on pending its service records.

Yup, 110K on a CTD is absolutely nothing, Lots and lots of life left. However, The 5.7 is an Excellent motor also. Also, You should no it is pretty much impossible to change the ODO on these trucks without access to Very expensive Dealer only scanner and software.

Hello again everyone,

I know the Cummins engine are very good but could not find anything in good condition. Most cummins trucks for sale needed a lot of repairs and i didn't want to spend a few thousands to put it back in good condition, and the new one were to expensive for personal use (5000 miles / year)

My new Hemi is in mint condition and will be perfect to pull my small boat. The 8 foot bed were not available in 2010 in the 1500 serie so i decided to go with a 2008. Up to now the truck is great, good power with good brakes.

Do all the Ram with a Hemi comes with 3.92 gears?

Thanks

the 3.92 gears are included when you have 20" wheels (from the factory). it may also be considered as part of the tow package, but i am not 100% sure on that one.
