Default good year for 3gen HEMI?

so lately ive been voodooed with my truck braking down a lot, ive decided to buy another one, this time a HEMI though and off course im not going to sell the one i have, ill have two. ill finish repairing this one and set her up for winter/work while my new one is going to be my toy/summer/daily truck.

With that said, i want to start my research on shopping for a Single cab 2 wheel drive HEMI and i like the 02-05 front end. so my questions are;
  • whats a good price? i know location, millage, and year matters but just to give me an idea
  • Whats the best year for the HEMI from 03-05?
  • What to look for in a used HEMI?
  • Whats the highest millage that i should stay away from? keeping in mind that im going to be doing some modds (ie. headers, e-fan, chip, cam, etc.)
thanks guys!

Just stay away from the 03's, the tuning aspect for them is basically nonexistant, and with your wish list you will need it. I'd stick to an 05' if you like the style and try to keep it around the 75-85k mark for mileage if you can (mine is an 05 with about that and its a daily driver).

'03 is kinda the red-headed step child. The '04s and '05s are about identical EXCEPT for some decent enhancements in the PCM on the '05. Especially in the tranny tuning department.
If looking for a truck that will get you the most aftermarket tuning options, the '05 is your best bet, but I'd not pass up a killer deal on an '04 though if you step into one...

I think the 05 is best because you have lots of after market gear. You have PCM/TCM support and no MDS

Like others said i would go for 05 as a first choice and later 04 build's second.

IMO, like the others have stated 05 prefered, 04 on a good deal and stay away from the 03. Trust me on the 03, nothing is easy with them......

13k would be a good deal, last I checked the SLT's were going for 15-17k privately, with around 50-60k miles.
