Default Engine Tone Ring failure question

Was told engine tone rings are a common failure item on a 03. Did a search and found one reference and it seemed to be associated with a under drive pully being installed.
Does anyone have any knowledge of these rings blowing up?
Thanks,

Ive read where a lot of guys dont like the UD pulleys because of engine failure. Its enough to scare me away from one. I have not seen a lot of threads on the crank tone ring failing though. I have seen maybe one or two threads either here or over on DT but I cant say they were only 03's. I dont remember

I know I hadn't heard anything about failures but since this guy said it was a known problem I thought I would ask.

I think most failures were folks running the older generation asp/motorblue pullies since they were not really harmonic dampers. I have not heard or cant remember any direct failures contribute directly to the toner ring and stock Harmonic Damper.
Prob' more less common since we now have SFI approved harmonic dampers available.
Been running my Summit 2516 Harmonic Damper U/D since Aug and i actually worry more about valve float than toner ring failure.

Well, this doesn't seem like a problem unless you remove the harmonic balancer. Is the Summit balancer a good upgrade? Daniel I know your engine get's spun up pretty high. What are you shifting at?

I really can't tell the difference if it really helps or not since my rpms are spinning fast enough already with the gears but i am not having any issues either. I also still run the OEM stereo and clutch fan so i don't have much of a draw. I am happy with the Summit U/D and considering it is SFI Approved (18.1) you really can't beat the price vs the ATI model.

Adding a E-fan makes me more nervous than the U/D pulley.

WOT runs are very few and between of late but i am hitting around 6600-6700 shifts with the column still. I will aim for 6800-6900 once the floor shifter goes in.

The eFan is no big deal as it only runs when stuck in traffic. Weed wrote a post recently outlining the floorshifter install. Sound straight forward as he explained the dash indicator is internally controled so all you have to contend with is the external mechanical hookup. Personally I want to set up a paddle shifter, but haven't found any information. 6900 is starting to sound like the old chevy days. Why not, build it right and spin her up. I know I would love to hear a Hemi running full song....

Floor shifters are easy. I hope to get time to finish mine one day soon. It would help if I would quit starting other projects. Paddle shifters? New to me. Anyone wanna share a link to some?

This is what I have found so far. http://www.mastershift.com/
Looks like the master kit with the wireless controller would be workable. I like thi s way more than a floor shifter....
