superchips is a must have first mod. gears or a cam are a nice second. im not a cai fan myself but many would argue that point. muffler swap if not full cat back. that'll get you started.

if you do exhaust, cai need to help inhale and exhale

I would look into ported heads if you get headers and a cat-back exhaust,

Keep in mind the 03 does not enjoy the tuner support of the newer trucks. Select your mods carefully with that in mind.

guys, seriously?? you're suggesting things like ported heads and cam when he only has a CAI and muffler? c'mon be serious.

Start with the "Big 3"

1. CAI (done)
2. Exhaust (done, although for performance, flowmaster has one of the worst flow rates out there, although it does sound good. probably not worth the money to replace it though if you're short on funds)
3. Tuner (not to be confused with a performance chip)
Since you have an 03, you're gonna get shafted on a lot of options other years get. You wont get any tranny support. Follow this simple rule of thumb: If you plan on doing extensive performance work (cam) that will require custom tuning, go with the DiabloSport Predator U7137. If you arent looking for custom tuning down the road, stick with a Superchips Flashpaq 3815 (the newer 3865 is a waste of money for you because you dont get the new upgrades anyway). If you want more on the differences between the two, ask away.

4. TMR Delete -- something ONLY the 03 guys have -- we like to brag about it. Just do a quick search on it and you'll find lots of information about it. Basically you cut a single wire and it eliminates the Torque Management that holds you back at wide open throttle (WOT). By cutting the wire, you get firmer, faster shifts at WOT. Best of all, its FREE!!

5. E-fan - You can buy expensive ones as a kit, or you can use the e-fan out of a Ford Taurus 3.8L. do a search on efan and LOTS of info will come up. Basically you'll free up about 1-2 mpgs and roughly 10-15hp. The taurus fan with controller can be had for less than $100.

6. Headers - Longtubes are best (Pacesetter is most popular). If emissions prevents longtubes, shorties are also better than stock.

Start with that for now. Its very important you get supporting mods before trying to go with bigger performance stuff.

What is the point of exhaust headers if the flow is restricted from the cylinder heads? A cold air intake and cat-back exhaust are mild and will gain 10-20 horsepower. An aggresive cam, ported heads and a tuner will yield 100 + (with the CAI and cat-back),

i guarantee you'll get better flow out of stock heads with headers than you will with ported heads with the stock manifold.

besides, if you'll notice, I put several things in front of headers. he's gotta get the support before he goes ***** out.

Even when he does get support, hes gonna have to be REALLY careful about what he chooses for major performance because he has an 03 -- very limited tuning options.
