Default 12" Glasspacks on 2008 Dodge Ram 4.7L

I have straights on my truck right now and they sound good, but my inspection sticker is about to go out. I was wondering if 12" glasspacks would sound good on an 08 Ram 1500 with a 4.7L. If not, any other suggestions?

Take some sound and video clips of your truck now. Then go get your exhaust changed and take some more sound and vid clips and report back.

Yea get a set of flow masters. Glass packs? hahah want to make your truck sound like **** do it. That sound is almost as annoying as a d-series civic with a fart can on it.

I have a glass pack on my 08 4.7 and it sounds really good! And for the price you cant beat it. I can assure you it dont sound like a civic with a fart can.

If you plan on going back to straights after your inspection then by all means just get the glasspacks. It would be more economical for you to buy two $20 glasspacks as opposed paying $50.00 for just one flowmaster or whatever brand you choose. I would recommend an 18" or longer to reduce the cackling and cracking. If you are looking for something that will last and give you good flow then a stainless muffler from Magnaflow or Aero turbine would be your best bet. IMOP I would stay away from a flowmaster aka noflowrustmaster. Someone is going to argue that glasspacks won't last very long but if you maintain them they will last. My 85 K5 had a set put on it in 97 and they are still holding up. All I've done is shoot them with heat paint. Thats my rant+ .02 cents.

Totally different sound, just as annoying. IMO theres only two places for running straight pipes / open headers and thats at the track or at a offroad event. The only straight pipe noise I like is the sound coming off a screamer pipe when you hit boost.

Do a cutout on your exh and clamp a universal cat then after emissions testing you can pull it out and clamp a test pipe back in.

Keep the straights and just pay and extra $20 bucks for the inspector to just pass you!

I ended up getting the 18 inch glasspack. I liked the inside sound of the straight Y-pipe better honestly. I was never able to hear the straights from the outside of my truck and have only heard the glasspack once. I had a Flowmaster Super 40 muffler on it before the straights. Here is a link for the Flowmaster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg8CXuSqLLc

I plan on putting the straights back on after I get my paycheck AFTER the holidays so I'll have money that I'll be able to spend on myself rather than everyone else lol.

How exactly do you maintain a muffler? As far as maintnence goes.... i dont see anything that can be done. I would call painting it.... more of a restoration than maintnence
