The only advantage of the hemi is the initial cost over the ctd.

Default Tough Decision

hey all,
I have a 2005 QC 4x4 slt Hemi... All my buddies have diesel fever and traded their gas trucks. I am considering doing the same thing but I am on the edge so i was looking for maybe some pro's and con's about each (gas vs. diesel)

In the past year I have replaced spark plugs, wires, 2 brand new magnaflow catalytic converters, new EGR valve, and fixed an upstream o2 sensor.

I have 2 12" subs in the truck, a pioneer deck, 1700 watt amplifier, diamond plate toolbox, 31" Toyo M/T's, and Custom True dual flowmaster exhuast slash cut under the rear passenger... looks pretty slick.

I want to lift my truck really bad but considering it costs so dang much for a good lift kit... and the fact that IFS IMO is a crappy system due to all the small things that can go wrong with a big lift i was questioning whether i should do it or not.

My truck has 94000 miles and want to trade for a cummins.

What do you guys think? Should I trade for a nice cummins with under 100,000 miles or keep the HEMI? What are going to be some of the pay-offs with each truck?

Thanks!

Yeah that is weird.

As for the OP and his lift v/s cost issue. There is the 3" body lift for about 350 you can do. Or maybe the Rough Country 6" susp lift for about 900

Getting into a CTD may mean higher and longer payments

What about winter? I didn't have diesel but as far as I know it may have problems with start at very low temperature. BTW, where are you from? because it might be not your case

CTD may have an engine warmer.

Go CTD it's a tone better and can go farther then a Hemi, and carry a HEMI the whole way.

Maintenance on a diesel is a hell of alot more. Winter time u better plug it in. ever cold start a powerstroke in -20. Dont Does not sound pleasent thankfully that was a company truck, did ever mention how much i hate ford? hahah.

Depends what u using it for dude. If your pounding on hwy miles (like most riggers do) and can run rig fuel (freesel) its a no brainer. But buying a diesel just to put around town def not worth it IMO.

My buddys got a 2007 2500 cummins, w programmer. If you want to pull a trailer or a boat, that truck man u don't even feel the added weight. We were making 4 car passes on the hwy towing the speedboat no problems. And the exhaust brake comes in handy. 4x4 the low end grunt of the diesel gets u out of trouble.

Or this is my personal fav. If u got a bullydog kit change the setting to crazy larry and matt it at the greenlight when chochy buddy in his drop top mustang thinks hes cool. Dust him out in a plume of black smoke

One more thing. Stacks, arent cool

I've owned both. I actually wanted a diesel when I went shopping for current truck in '04. But the added cost was just not practical for me. I gave up tournament bass fishing (lots of travel while trailering) and have gotten to where I only put about 8k miles a year on my truck. I WILL tow heavy (over 8k pounds) but only about 4x a year and only about 30 miles each way.

IMHO, to justify the added cost of a diesel and it's maintenance, you should either be towing a LOT of weight fairly regularly or putting high (over 15k a year) mileage on your truck.

Aside from that, a diesel is not necessary. However, if you have deep pockets and just WANT a diesel, there is NO REASON not to go for it...

Cost of repairs will be more on the CTD. Something to think about before you get a bigger truck cause your buddies did. Esp. if you have no use for a ctd.

Just my .02, don't get the idea of getting a ctd without having a use for it other than a status symbol for friends lol.
