For those with the 'plastic' ones. Not sure if newer years have good ol metal ones.

I smashed my trans skid plate and was wondering if anyone here made one of their own or found a quality metal replacement.

My stock ones are steel. Pretty thick at that. I did have to remove the front diff one when I put the lift on, but a replacement was an option with the kit though. The stocker is covering a hole my dogs dug to get under my fence, LOL...

 

haven't replaced the front dif one but it's bent to hell from sliding off a boulder while rockclimbing.

by "skidplate" do you actually mean the plastic thing at the bottom of the bumper? i just cut the bolts off it and pulled it off since it's just for looks.

 

The air dam causes more air to flow through the radiator rather than around it while at highway speeds. It is definitely not just for looks.

It may not blow up without it but it doesn't mean you're not better off with it.

no, I am not speaking of the 'chin spoiler' and yes it does serve a purpose.


unfortunately my 2002 came with plates made from a plastic/fiberglass sort of material that is pretty strong but very brittle as evidenced by the splintering when it took a hit.

 

How much do those plates weigh?

 

I purchased the front one off Ebay and I believe it's slightly smaller than the transfercase one???
Anyways, it was roughly 20lbs or so. It was either 1/8" or 3/16" thick...I don't recall. I know the weight wasn't obsurd because the shipping cost the seller paid was reasonable.
Stock OEM skidplates from are steel, so I don't know why anyone would have plastic?

 

Not all oem plates were steel. I know of two others without steel. I have second half production run of '02 1500 4x4 and according to vin no steel plates.

i think thats less of a skid plate and more of a stick guard
