Default Replacing the 45-545RFE Trans

Quick question. Does any one know if a 45-545RFE (in an 2003 1500) can be replaced with a real man's trans, the 727. And is there an adaptor for such a project?

Long live the 4bbl and dual points

Sure it's possible for offroad applications and tons of modifications. I think there was an article in a magazine some time back doing this.
The problem you face is the 2003 has a trasnmision control module(TCM) that controls transmission functions and relays tht information to the ecu. Yout could encounter al kinds of issue's with the tuning aspect and prob have your engine code illuminated nonstop with no way of disabling it??

I suggest maybe doing the TM mod(eliminates torque management). There's a sticky in the DIY section I believe. If not do a search. It's doing a simple jumper on one of the relays. It makes your trans shift firmer and without major delay. This was Chryslers first step toward mushy soft shifts in hopes to extend the life of the transmissions. It just burns the clutch discs more is all.
Other than that, your SOL with your 2003. Go join the "forgotten about 2003" club...lol

You might have better luck with one of the 727's descendants, the 48RE. It is normally a diesel trans, but was recalibrated and adapted to the small block/3g hemi bolt pattern and installed in SRT-10 quad cabs. These trucks also used a 2 piece steel driveshaft (thought about installing these).

Thanks for the info guys. I figured, that there would be trouble. I just miss my old neck snapping, tire barking 727.

Me too, I had them behind a built 400 and 440, indestructible trans. The A518 is an A727 with electronic overdrive.
