Well under the axles the clearance is strictly determined by tires, but any sprung weight will gain clearance through a suspension lift. On my truck the lowest point is under the transfer case, not the axles
Obviously you won't have a transfer case on a 2wd, but there are other low points on the frame I'm sure

The clearance I worry about usually is quarter panels/bumpers. Going through ditches and stuff. Frame isnt a big deal

Matty hit the nail on the head. It's about angle of approach/departure.
It's why no pickup truck can stay with a short bodied, short wheelbase vehicle like a Jeep Wrangler off road.

Why do you think they harp on the new generation Grand Cherokee having the wheels so close to the front and back in those commercials. They are trying to shed the "soccer mom" image the GC has gotten in the past few years in an attempt to lure back some of the off-road crowd who need a little more than a Wrangler...

I got a kit off autotrucktoys.com i think it was. came with new coil springs, add a leaf, and shocks. then i threw on a 2" block in the rear and the truck sat perfect. Raised 2-3 in the front and 2-3 in the rear. still had the factory rake going on

I think a BL would be more cheap in the long run. Susp lifts usually cost more in material and require an alignment afterwards.

Yeah, I know it's an old thread. But the "body lifts are gay" crowd is just too funny.

Well I also think rough country makes a 3 inch suspension lift that is about 300 bucks. 3 inches up front and a 1 inch block for the rear with new shocks/springs for the front and new shocks for the rear.

Although it says it only works for 02-05 so idk if it would work for your truck.
