Question Body lift or suspension?

Hey guys I gotta 08 quad cab ram hemi 2wd. Thinking about growing 2-3 inches but I've never lifted my vehicles. Is a body lift or suspension lift better? Also what would be the best bang for my buck in relation? Any help is appreciated.

As for bang for your buck, body lift is much better. Body lifts only come in 3", which is good amount. They run about $350 dollars, and you can do it yourself if you dedicate a saturday to it. The only thing about body lifts is that they just lift the "body" and not the entire frame of the car, so some things get out of place. Nothing really bad, a ton of people on these forums have body lifts and they don't make your car look bad. Just make sure you get gap guards so you don't emphasize the body lift.

A suspension lift is significantly more expensive, and they typically require new shocks (With a Body Lift you won't need new shocks).

Because it is a 2wd and I assume the car won't be doing much off-roading, the Body Lift is a good bang for your buck.

Another option is to a spindle lift, you can get a 3" front lift spindle for about $300 on airbagit.com. That won't lift your rear, but you could throw a 2" block back there or put in add-a-leafs to bump up the back.

***I wouldn't listen to the guy that has nothing more to say than "body lifts are gay", as high brow as he seems, he appears to be more of an idiot.

I appreciate the info. As for the gay body lift guy, I know what you mean. There's always some knuckleheads on auto forums. Yeah I don't plan on goin mudding but I want some more clearance. I just want to make mine a strong 2wd that won't be prone to bitching out if the roadway gets a little hairy. It'll be a work in progress but I'm lookin for a starting point with somekind of lift before I get new tires in the near future.

If you want to get clearance, I'd also recommend a leveling kit. That will lift your front end about 2", and take away the rake on your truck. You can get a 2" leveling kit (a coil spacer that sits above your coil), and a 3" body lift, and if you can install them both yourself will cost you about $500. That will give you 5" of lift in the front and 3" in the back, which will be a good amount of clearance.

If you're going for clearance, your best bet would be a suspension lift. Spindles in the front, and buy leaf springs for the rear.

I wrote this a couple of years ago to basically explain the differences, advantages and disadvantages of the various ways you can lift a truck. It's primarily geared toward 4x4s but it pretty much holds true for 4x2s as well...

Why do you say that? Just out of curiosity because the only way to gain clearance is by adding larger tires to a rig. If he said he was looking for more wheel travel or something then I could see the advantage obviously going to a suspension lift, but as far as ground clearance goes, the only way to get more is to add some larger diameter tires.

Oh the tires will definately be bigger. Granted, not huge tires especially if I keep the 20s on there. I'm just wanting some advice so I'll be squared away on my options being better for when I do put some meats on my ride.

I think youve got all of the info that you need. Youve got about the same truck as me, and have a ton of options.
