I've got an '04, so no MDS. I get about 12.5 in combo driving, might eek out 16 on a trip if it's almost all highway and I granny it around 65 mph getting there...

Shift points dont mean anything when it comes to mpg, the programers I have used in the past have netted at least 2-3mpg better over stock running the performance tune (next to nothing on their fuel saver tunes though, who would have thought that). The thing with tuners is that they adjust fuel and timing to get you a few more hp/tq and make the truck run better, thats whats giving you the better mpg.

My truck has a big cam, full bolt ons, and I drive my truck not babying it and I get still get over 16mpg city and close to 18mpg hwy.

I recently bought my first truck, a 2004 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Laramie with the 5.7L; I used to have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade 3.7L before this one, so still adjusting to the gas bills. But I thought the truck would give on average 13mpg city and 17mpg hwy. Over the last week, it's averaged at 10mpg, and I have not once had the RPM higher than 3000, so not pushing it or anything like that, but it has been 90% city driving.

Is this normal? In the other thread guys are talking about programming chips? Are these chips add ons that help fuel economy?
I been getting around the same on my 06 hemi qc 4x4 (stock). In the spring im gonna change out my spark plugs, wires, all fluids, and check the egr valves as well. But im thinking 10mpg city in our ****ty canadian winter prolly average.

How are you guys computing your mileage numbers? GPS? Manually from the odometer reading between fillups? The digital "mpg gauge" readout?

I think gps numbers would be the most accurate, followed by the odometer reading. But if the odometer calibration is off due to other than stock size tires it'll skew the result. I don't trust the factory mpg gauge at all. It's telling me I'm averaging 13 or so but I seem to burn up 30gal awful quick.

I do odometer reading and check it with the MPG gauge. So far they've been in the same ball park.

I use odometer ratings, and my Droid has a Mileage app that I use. It is really nice because it shows how you are doing mileage wise and you can add comments.. For example I leave a small comment every time I add something to the truck, such as a K&N air filter, or exhaust.. That way you know if you are getting better mileage or worse mileage and can track it on the App. The App also shows Fuel prices and will find the cheapest gas around according to your GPS location. I love my Droid

I'm filling full tank each time so it is simple. Odometer reading divide by liters/gallons filled
