I was just reading this other thread in this forum about bad fuel mileage. Thought I'd ask about mine.

I recently bought my first truck, a 2004 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Laramie with the 5.7L; I used to have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade 3.7L before this one, so still adjusting to the gas bills. But I thought the truck would give on average 13mpg city and 17mpg hwy. Over the last week, it's averaged at 10mpg, and I have not once had the RPM higher than 3000, so not pushing it or anything like that, but it has been 90% city driving.

Is this normal? In the other thread guys are talking about programming chips? Are these chips add ons that help fuel economy?

I don't think I'll even get 15.9 watching TV on my couch with the truck parked in the driveway

Couple of things... not sure where ure located but w/ the cold weather comes winter mixture fuel. You will see a decrease from that. How many miles on ure truck? I just replaced my egr valve @ 50,000 and it was quite dirty. (see new and old below) That can lead to a decrease in fuel consumption. As it goes for programmers yes they are a help w/ fuel consumption as you can adjust ure shift points. However @ $300 it will take you quite some time to recoup that cost in fuel savings.

I get 9-10 mpg, but I'm running 4.56's & 38" tires. Programmers usually cause us to burn a little more fuel as we struggle to keep off the pedal

The truck has got 112k on it; I guess it must be the winter fuel then. What do guys usually get for city mpg?
