Brake Squeal (upon release!)
Did a search but didn't see anything about this.
Last weekend I was on a road trip in my '02 Ram 1500. When driving in the city, and stopping for lights, I would occasionally get a little brake squeal upon stopping. No biggy, the brakes have almost 100k on them.
What was interesting (and concerning) to me was that a couple of times a similar squeal occurred when I let off the brake pedal, before I began moving. This would seem to indicate that the noise is coming from the calipers and not the pads/disk, correct? I am a little worried that the calipers are going to lock up on me because of this. It isn't every stop, just occasional.
Of course, it was -5 degrees this morning, and we are still digging out of the snowstorm we had this week, so I can't easily pull wheels and try to diagnose when it's this cold.
Once it warms up, what do I need to focus on? Should I just pull the wheels and have someone hit the pedal while I watch the calipers? Is there a lube point or something on them or will I just have to replace them?
Any diagnostic tips appreciated!
