Default Oil drain plug irritation.....

This is a small thing, but I wonder what experiences others have had. Changed the oil the the family cars today, saving my Ram for last. Well, I could not finish because the drain plug rounded off. This is the second one I will have to replace because of that. I use the right sized tools, a Craftsman socket with lots of teeth, and don't crank the plugs down excessively. Why do the darn things keep rounding off.

Got a good set of bolt grabbers (now) so removing this won't be a problem after I pick up a replacement plug.

The first time this happened I buggered up the plug so bad trying to remove it with vice grips that we had to tack weld a metal bar onto it to remove it.

Get a Fumoto Valve and that problem will be gone forever.

try a 6 point WRENCH instead of a socket!

Love my Fumoto as well. I have it installed on all of our cars. Makes changing the oil a breeze

I got on my Jeep and I do some serious off-offroading and never had it come open. Also who in the hell going to crawl under your truck to see if you have one installed. If they are doing that it wont matter what plug you got.

Craftsman Bolt Out worked as advertised, and I just installed the Fumoto valve. This is going to make oil changes easier.

Do any of you go to the trouble of using a hose clamp to lock the valve, as shown in the instructions?
