Default Going from a 2nd Gen to a 3rd Gen

I currently have a 99 Dodge 1500 4x4 and I am thinking of trading it in for an 02 Dodge 2500 4x4 lifted. It has supposedly 3" body lift and 4" suspension. They're asking 12,999.00 for the truck and willing to pay off my truck. It has 89xxx miles. Mud terrain tires on it. New stereo. It's fairly clean inside, it is a truck after all. It has a new transmission, t-case, and rear end with warranty. It has the 5.9L gas engine in it.

Is it worth 12,999? What are common problems with this truck?

Thanks!

Thats probably a decent price for everything on the truck and how you describe it but the 5.9 never got good mileage and 90k is fair amount of miles for a gas engine.

I have the 5.9 in my 1500. I love it. I love the truck, just I keep getting nickeled and dimed and I wanna lift it. Now I can just trade it in, lose 20k miles and get the lift already on the truck and the truck rides reallllyyyy well.

Is there really a gas mileage change between a stock 1500 5.9L gas mileage and a stock 2500 5.9L gas mileage? I know the mileage is gonna suck even worse with the lift. I wouldn't be looking into the prospect of a lifted truck if I didn't mind it.

I dunno, I had the 5.9 gasser in my '98. Tank of an engine (save the stupid plenum issue) but fuel economy is gonna suck even more with the heavier framed truck. Even with a new (probably rebuilt) tranny, they are known to not last long.

You might can find a newer 3rd Gen 2500 with Hemi and the 545re transmission combo for not much more $. 100+ better HP while getting a solid 25% better fuel economy than the 5.9 which is basically late 1960s technology.

Nothing really wrong with stepping from your truck to the '02 2500, but I just think for not much more than a grand or two more you can find a Hemi truck with newer technology, what has proven to be a lot more stout transmission, lots more HP, much better gas mileage and around the same or less miles on it...
