My TPMS warning light has been coming on non-stop. I have stopped and filled my tires, and or checked the pressure multiple times. I have non-factory tires and the suggested pressure for the tires is a max of 50 PSI. I have the tires at 50 psi and the light still comes on. Is there possible a confusion between the computer and the newer tires? The computer may be looking for a higher or lower psi?

They'll react to too much pressure as well as too little. Why would you ignore the door placard for tire pressure?

 

Not ignoring any tire pressure. As I said in my original post I have the pressure set per the tire, which is not the factory set of tires. Pressures will be different based on tire.

 

Wrong. The tire manufacturer doesn't set the pressure. The door placard determines the proper inflation pressure.

Just adjusted tires to the recommendation on the door...35 psi. TPMS light still comes on!

 

You will likely need to drive it some. The sensors are off if the wheels aren't turning. Makes the batteries last longer.

 

This is not exactly correct. The door placard shows pressure for OEM like tires, for my truck for example it will be P265/70R17 tires. For such tires max pressure is 50 PSI so the proper pressure under normal condition is 35 PSI (according to the calculation max * 0.7). Many people here run at 70-80% pressure of the max which is considered to be normal. If, for example, aftermarket tires are 10ply tires with max pressure of 80 PSI the proper inflation will be 56 PSI - 64 PSI.

 

Come to think of it, does it use sensors? Some systems use the ABS system to detect the tiny changes in wheel speed to guess that the tire is too low/high. Are the valve stems flexible or rigid?

 

Before getting into the troubles with computer I can suggest 2 possible solutions:
1. Change all TPMS sensors in your tires
2. Or take them out and disable this function in your computer

 

Took the truck for a nice drive this morning after setting TP to 35psi. No change.....

Truck under warranty still....

Dealer found that sensors were not programmed. Problem solved.
