FNG with a question on ABS.
Hello to the boards. I've been a Dodge owner since 2007. I bought my 2008 1500 regular cab pickup in November and liked it so much that my son bought one too.
Now to the problem. His passenger side front brake caliper locked up in January and the whole rotor and bearing got hot. We replaced the caliper and last Sunday he heard a roaring in the front end so we replaced the bearing assembly on the passenger front corner. The roaring persisted and was more pronounced on the driver side so we tried to change the driver side bearing assembly.
That's where the trouble popped up. I changed the passenger side yesterday myself and on the passenger side there is no ABS wire or boss on the bearing so the replacement bearing assembly went back on in about 1/2 hour.
Today we tried to change the driver side hub assembly with the part listed at O'Reillys and the replacement part has no ABS mount like the other side but the factory bearing assembly does have a wired in ABS sensor.
ABS sensor on the driver side wheel but not the passenger side? WTF? Another trip back to town and Auto Zone had the assembly with the sensor and wire. Get it back home and the wire connector is wrong on the new part.
My truck has the same set up.
Sorry for the long post but dang it, I can't figure out why our trucks are AFU like this? Is it a mistake by the manyfacturer or done this way for a reason?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Drivers side has a ABS sensor but the pass side does not is actually normal. However, if you bought a hub for the pass side and it is supposed to have a ABS sensor but does not then you simply bought the wrong one.
On a side note, you can buy those with the sensors (new and shipped) for about $90-100 on ebay

Why would they have one sensor on the front end? Thats just stupid, I thought they would have advanced more in ABS systems.
I would love to hear the answer for the 1 ABS sensor as well
Anyway is that spec sheet the build sheet or the sticker that came witht the truck, They could have just omitted it or a typo.

I found an answer. One of my co-workers gave me a plausible answer. One of the front wheels has a sensor and the drive shaft or tail shaft has a sensor. The data is compared by the computer and if the front wheel is turning and the drive end sensor detects no rotation, it activates the ABS.
Makes perfect sense when you think about it.
The after market hubs have a sensor system that will not work on the Dodge. The sensor housing has the wire exiting the housing at a 90 degree angle. That puts it impossible to mount. Also the connector is incorrect and wont work with the factory loom connection. I had to remove the replacement sensor and install my old one for it to work. If you do this, the warranty could be voided; as per instruction in box. Screw it. I mounted the old sensor and checked for interference as I tightened the retaining bolt.

The 2nd gens with 4WAL have sensors with 90 degree sensors. Maybe this is what they gave you
Those AAM's are weird with the front drive shaft turning all the time and all.
But if you slam on the brakes and you front wheels lock wouldn't the shaft also stop Therefore both sensors would be reading the same thing.
On mine (Dana) if i hit the shoulder with my passenger side and hit the brakes the one in the dirt will lock first and compare speed with the other 2 sensors and pulse the module.
IDK still would ask for more info.
