Rather unexpected
So I was pulling on what appeared to be a stuck ford. I had a 22,000 lb recovery strap that I just bought because my good old tow chain got lost somewhere. The tires were both spinning on dry pavement, and I had pulled him a good 15 feet. I heard a thunk and a rattle. Of all the things that broke, I was never expecting to loose the yoke on the rear end. I really did not think that a 4.7 motor could shatter the yoke bolted to a Dana 60 2500 rear end. Must have been flawed parts. I now have work to do tomorrow.
its not the shear power of the motor its the momentum of the wheels spinning then any sudden movement or slight stoppage (ie hopping etc..) that would shear the yoke. I'm sure the components of the truck were fine, it's just not the way to tow someone with the tires spinning on dry pavement, no component is designed for that.
