Talking Finnally bit the bullet...

So, I've been wanting black wheels since I bought the truck, and just don't have the money to go out and buy new ones. I was going to get them powder coated, which was about $400, but one of my buddies painted his wheels about a year and a half ago using Duplicolor's High Performance Wheel Paint and it came out really well and has held up great. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

Steps I took:
-I removed the wheels, left the tires on, just masked them off really well.
-Scuffed the wheels and center caps really well with a painter's very fine synthetic scuff pad.
-Cleaned the wheels with prep spray, and wiped them down with lint free rag.
-Applied a thin layer of adhession promoter
-3 coats of black Duplicolor Wheel Paint
-3 coats of clear Duplicolor Wheel Paint

Came out pretty nice. A few dirt specs here and there, but it wasn't done in a paint booth, so I expected that from inside the garage. Overall pretty happy with it. We'll see how it holds up. Waiting on bigger tires.

I've been wanting to, I just have been scared it wont come out the same color. The whole truck needs a paint job, BAD. Got a bunch of fade spots and some paint peeling off of the front passenger side door. I think I might use some of the extra aircraft paint I got laying around. Stuff is SUPER strong, what we paint the Harriers and F18's with. Just not sure if i wanna do it or not.

Airbrusher? I'm an airframer, I rivet every day. I could just do some real rivets in some key locations. But, yeah, I was thinking the light flat grey. It's not porous like primer, so dirt wouldn't stick to it, and it's super durable.

yea you could do real rivits, and I bet it would look badass. I saw an airbrusher do rivets and panels on a truck and it looked great, thats why I said that.
