just want to clarify
Hey guys I just want to clarify on something
I recently today bought, well put money down for my eaton detroit truetrac and 4.10 gears.
Now I'm switching from 3.55 to 4.10 on 31.5 tires. Now would this increase mileage? I hear it does in city driving but not highway. That's fine since 80 percent of my driving is in the city. But is that true, and if so by how much?. Also would doing the swap increase my torque, and by how much?
I've been hearing different things and since you guys have experience with this I'd like to know from you.
Thanks

Detroit Truetrac & 4.10 gears! Awesome!
you will see better mileage in the city as well as much improved throttle response. You would think it hinders, but it actually helps!
Going from 3:55's to 4:10's is a 15.5% increase(actually a reduction). Your torque curve will be shifted to the left as you look at a dyno sheet(sooner) Gears will never gain you Power, but will gain you performance by simply moving the torque curve around to suit your race.
31.5" tires gain like 5% over 33's and if you installed 33's, your 4:10's will feel more like 3:90's. Still a noticeable improvement over 3:55's.
You can def go up to 33" and still improve take-off, mpg's city and even some on the highway.

Yep, I like 4.10s with anything up to a 33" tire. Like 'dog says, gears obviously cannot increase HP or Torque, but you get up into the powerband faster, which gives you two big benefits: More power, faster and more power with less throttle which is why most people see a modest increase in fuel economy in stop and go driving...
