I have an 08 2wd. The only things I have done to it are a K&N replacement filter (not a CAI) and switched to synthetic fluids, (crankcase & diff, not tranny) and I get around 15 mpg city 18 hwy. It's really not bad for a big truck like these Dodges. My truck has MDS (as will your 08 4x4 if it's a 1500) which shuts down 4 cyl. on the highway at cruising speeds to "save fuel" don't know if it really works or not, but I am happy with the performance and economy of my truck.

thanks for the reply.i currently drive a '96 ram regular cab 4x4 and probably get better mileage then 18 mpg highway.that 318 just keeps on purring.looks like ford has dodge beat by a mile in the fuel economy department.

I just bought a 2007 1500 4x4 Mega cab. I drove every truck there is. I bought the dodge so that was my first choice. But a ford was right be hind it the difference in the ford and dodge is the power. Nothing can touch the Hemi. And dodge does get the lowest gas milage out of its class but the difference is almost nothing like 3mpg between all the brands.

Ford has always had Dodge beat with their V8s in the fuel economy department. But it don't change the fact that it's a Ford!

The new Ford engines for 2011 not withstanding, it's kinda hard to compare a 5.4L engine to a 5.7L Hemi when the Hemi is making 70+ more horsepower.

If you are looking at a purchase based on fuel economy alone, I hear them Pruis' do pretty good. LOL...

Yep, when buying a truck, fuel economy shouldn't really be a factor. Otherwise, buy a Ridgeline.

Yea that ecoboost is laying down 420ft/lbs though. It's new I know but 22+ mpg and that kinda power on gas is respectable if the engine ends up being worth a damn

gas mileage is kinda bad in these trucks but if you are looking at a ford or chevy because of gas stop and think about it theres really not that much difference in 1 or 2 mpg make sure to look at the truck overall my deciding factors in buying mine was looks, interior, durability, and mainly price but if you do buy the 2008 you wont be disappointed (but also remember dodge is running some super deals right now on new 4th gens i kinda wish i would have waited a few months)
