Default I'd love to hear a solution for you... because is same deal wit me.

Granted I have a 2500, but still.
5.7 liter, Hemi
3.73 gears
brandy new tune
new air filter
everything maintained...

Get 12.3mpg highway, hand calculated thank you.
Got 8.4mpg towing, 2200# horse trailer with probably 3000# (overestimate of weight) of gear. Let's say 5500# (childs play lets face it)....

Granted there are a lot of hills/mountains to get up/down around but we aren't talking McKinley!

I am tired of the MPG issue as well! I have the 4.7 on my 2008 QC and I am getting between 10 to 13 mpg with regular unleaded and I gave the E85 a chance and it was even worse, getting 9 mpg!! I just got Cooper Zeon tires put on the stock 20's and Bistein 5100 Leveling shocks as well, I hope it dont get worse MPG with those upgrades!!

Yeah, even the government (who is pushing the hell out of E85) admits that there is about a 25% reduction of fuel economy with it.

These are trucks, boys... Big, heavy, trucks. Most of y'all are lifting them and that alone creates a boatload of wind drag.

I hear that Prius mod works good for better MPGs...

You might want to check your idle pulley just for the hell of it. My buddies 02 Ram was all of a sudden getting terrible mileage and it turned out to be that. Lost almost 4 mpg because of it. Pull your belt and check the bearing

Default Mpg

So 13-14 mpg on the highway and 10 or less towing 1500lb of trailer is to be expected? I have a 4.7L shortbed reg cab with bed cover 2 in lower in rear to try to level and stock 17s with 3.55 gears.

I thought it would get about 20 being light and such a small V-8 but not so far. Adding a K&N CIA made it worse by the way. put the ebay aluminum one back on and it is better to the tune of 14-15 on the highway. Oh yea the only other addons is efan and magnaflow cat back duals.

I really miss my 94 F150 4x4 it got 16-18 on the highway depending on the wind, it had a 6 inch lift on 33s and it was running 3.55 gears and a 302 auto. If it can do that well why cant this truck do better than that?
This dodge actually makes more power but does not feel like it.

Apparently you dont buy a dodge for gas mileage. Lol. I may have to buy a beater to drive arround.

I was getting around 8-9 mpg pulling a trailer [6000lbs] and 11-12 mpg around town. I started using Startron fuel treatment, It helps alot with the ethanol problem. I am now getting 10-11 mpg with the trailer and 16-17 around town. It did make a big change. I run it in everything I own with a motor. You cant get a good burn with ethanol, is not good at all for any motor.

I'd say if anyone is getting 13-14 mpg on the highway with a 4.7 or Hemi, then they have an issue or are sorely in need of some maintenance, especially if it's a RC 4x2.

As far as the CAI, what the hell did you expect when you put a CAI on the truck? More air in = more fuel that must be added to it. Cooler air = more dense = more fuel is added to it. A CAI adds more power but poorer fuel economy. In general, a CAI is used in combination with a free flowing exhaust which negates the small MPG loss.

As far as the Ford getting better gas mileage, I've owned three Fords, two gassers and Ford has ALWAYS gotten better gas mileage than Dodge in comparable CI engines while the Dodge made more power (and usually lasted longer, on average anyway).

If you wanted a truck for better gas mileage, you bought the wrong one. but then again, who would buy a pickup truck if they were worried about gas mileage???
