Well, technically you are right, they are steps. They are designed like a slider, so not your average 4" oval tube step. These are custom sliders that will look awesome on any truck whether it is lifted or lowered. He has made them for sport trucks as well as rock crawlers and 4x guys. He talked me into having them powder coated for durability, so they won't be back from the powder coat until Thursday or Friday. But I did manage to snap a couple of shots of him bending/welding/fitting them to my truck in his shop and I am still waiting for them send from my droid to my email. It's taking forever.

Here are a couple of pictures as promised. This is my buddy Kenny, he owns KR Fabrication here locally in So Cal and is an amazing fabricator. He can make anything you want from custom bumpers, roll cages, sliders, tire gates, roof racks, etc. He also works a lot with sheet metal, aluminum, seamless gutters, wrought iron, and just about anything metal. He is getting pretty big over on the Tacoma forums for a lot of off road stuff like Jerry cans, tire gates, bumpers, etc. He made these while I was sitting in his shop today and it was a lot of fun to watch him work.

Anyway, here goes a couple of pictures:

What do you guys think? Like I said, they are off to powder coat right now, so when they are done, they will be mounted to the truck and I will get some finished product pics.
