Question Who has plasti-dipped chrome?

Hey guys/gals,

I was just wondering who has any experience plasti-dipping chrome? I am getting some new wheels this week and they are chrome and I would like to plasti-dip them. Can I use an adhesion promoter with plasti-dip? Does it need to be primered if I use adhesion promoter? AND lastly, If I use adhesion promoter CAN I primer/sand/plasti-dip or would there be ill effects.

Give me some examples of what you have done, and as always, pictures help.

LOTS of guys on here have Plasti Dipped chrome. From grill inserts to bumpers. A quick search will bring up tons of threads.

From what I've heard there is basicallly no prep work needed. Just clean the surface and spray.

Why in the hell is virtu-ally censored?

Yep! I have my emblems plasti dipped, turned out great, but I would suggest using 3 coats. I only did 2 on my rear ram and I think the corners just didnt get enough paint. Good luck! I did not use any adhesion promoter but I would suggest Bulldog promoter. Pretty expensive but has always working amazing for me.

Thanks Geezir. If that is all that is needed then it will make my life that much more easier. I just want to make sure that it is not going to start peeling off of the wheels while im going down the highway. That would look terrible. I want a uniform look for all of the wheels with the plus of durability.

And I have no idea why virtu-ally is censored on these forums.

I have a couple of cans of that Bulldog promoter in the garage that I used on my headlights and grill inserts, however, I used dupli-color brilliant black paint and clear on all of that stuff, not just plasti-dip. Do think it would be of any benefit to use with the plasti-dip?

Yes, I have heard fellow forum members using it with plasti dip. The more adhesion the better.

I haven't done chrome, but have done plastic pieces that regular spray paint just beads off of. Cleaning the surface, then a quick spray with an adhesion promoter then a couple of coats of Plasti-Dip is all I ever do...

I sprayed it on my chrome wheels and chrome tube steps. Never had a problem with peeling at all. All I did was clean with a good de-greaser and spray away.
